The hike to Grente Alm hut and onward to Grente Cross (2,250 m) is a beautiful panoramic tour in the Antholz Valley. The route leads through peaceful forest sections up to an impressive viewpoint with wide views over the Antholz Valley and the surrounding mountains.
Depending on the chosen option, the ascent can either be more challenging via a steep forest trail or more relaxed via a forest road. Grente Alm hut is an ideal intermediate destination before continuing to the scenic Grente Cross.
Thanks to numerous connecting trails, the tour can be individually extended – for example towards Rammelstein peak, Mittertaler Ochsenalm hut or Kumpfl Alm hut.
Option 1 – From the parking area above the Ausserwegersäge (Antholz Mittertal)
From the Antholz Valley, drive past the sawmill Ausserweger and continue into the forest at the Waldrasthof farm until reaching the signposted parking area.
From there, two routes lead up to Grente Alm hut:
From the alpine hut, continue uphill on trail no. 6 to Grente Cross (2,250 m).
Option 2 – From Antholz Niedertal
The starting point is the church in Antholz Niedertal. From there, follow the path to the left towards the Maier farms / Pfaffingerhof farm.
The route then climbs steadily along the forest edge on trail no. 6 up to Grente Alm hut.
From there, trail no. 6 continues up to Grente Cross.
Extension possibilities:
The return follows the respective ascent route or can be completed as an individual circular tour.
Sturdy mountain boots, weather-appropriate clothing and sufficient water are required. A good level of fitness is recommended for the longer extension tours and summit ascents.
