The circular hike via the Urigsteig to Grüblalm hut is a true hidden gem in the upper Antholz Valley. The route leads through quiet, less frequented natural surroundings and offers a varied hiking experience with shaded forest sections, alpine trails and scenic viewpoints.
Starting from Antholz Obertal, the path first follows the valley floor at a gentle pace before the Urigsteig begins. This narrow mountain trail climbs more steeply and is partly exposed, but secured with steel cables.
At the top, you reach the quietly located Grüblalm hut (not serviced). The descent follows an old military road with well-laid switchbacks back down into the valley.
The tour can also be done in the opposite direction and offers several extension options. Due to its solitude and scenic beauty, it is especially recommended for experienced hikers.
The starting point is Antholz Obertal, above Camping Antholz at the bus stop “Antholz Obertal, Müller”.
From there, follow trail no. 1 up the valley. After some time, the Urigsteig (trail no. 9A) branches off to the right.
The Urigsteig climbs as a narrow, partly steep trail through the forest up to Grüblalm hut (not serviced). In some sections, the path is slightly exposed and secured with steel cables – sure-footedness and a head for heights are required.
The descent from Grüblalm hut follows trail no. 9 along an old military road with well-constructed switchbacks back to Antholz Obertal.
Alternative / Extension:
The tour can also be completed in the opposite direction.
From the Pustertal road, turn into the Antholz Valley and drive to Antholz Obertal.
