The mountain hike to Vogelgrand (2,277 m) is one of the easiest yet most rewarding summit hikes in the Antholz Valley. The starting point is the Staller Saddle, from where the trail first leads towards Rotwand. Shortly afterwards the route turns right, crosses a small bridge and then climbs steadily to the summit.
With every step higher, beautiful views of the Antholz Valley, the impressive peaks of the Rieserferner Group, and the vast mountain landscape of the Defereggen Valley open up. Once at the Vogelgrand summit, hikers are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic viewpoint.
Thanks to the short walking time, moderate ascent and varied scenery, this tour is particularly popular with families and leisure hikers looking for a quiet and scenic summit hike.
The return follows the same route back to the Staller Saddle.
The tour starts at the Staller Saddle (2,052 m), the border pass between South Tyrol and East Tyrol. From here, follow the marked trail no. 7 towards Rotwand until reaching a junction at a small bridge. Here the trail no. 7a branches off to the right and climbs steadily up to the summit.
At the top you are rewarded with an impressive panorama: the view stretches across the peaks of the Rieserferner Group, the Staller Saddle, the Obersee, and far into the mountains of the Defereggen Valley.
Tip: If you continue walking about 10 minutes downhill from the summit, you will reach the so-called “Two Lakes Viewpoint”. From here you can admire both Lake Antholz and the Obersee at the Staller Saddle at the same time.
The descent follows the same route back to the starting point at the Staller Saddle.
From the Puster Valley Road, near Olang, turn into the Antholz Valley and follow the road up the valley to Lake Antholz.
Behind the lake begins the pass road leading up to the Staller Saddle (2,052 m). The crossing of the Staller Saddle is single-lane and controlled by traffic lights:
From South Tyrol to Austria: every hour from :30 to :45
From Austria to South Tyrol: every hour from :00 to :15
The starting point of the tour is located directly at the Staller Saddle.
