The hike to Hochraut Alm hut is a varied tour above Oberrasen in the Antholz Valley. The alpine hut is located in a sunny position and offers beautiful views over the valley and the surrounding mountains.
Depending on the chosen route, the ascent starts either directly from Oberrasen or via the higher located mountain inn Mudler.
The tour is ideal for families and leisure hikers, but it can also be extended into a longer circular hike.
Option 1 – From Oberrasen:
The starting point is the parking area above the church of Oberrasen at the edge of the forest.
From there, the route first leads to Oberstallerhof farm. At the barrier, follow trail no. 5 to the left, which steadily climbs through the forest up to Hochraut Alm hut.
Option 2 – From the Mudler parking area:
From the Mudler parking area, first follow trail marker no. 31 and then continue on trail no. 5A.
After the small pond “Mudlerseebl”, the steeper trail no. 5C branches off downhill to Hochraut Alm hut.
Alternatively, you can remain on the forest road no. 5A and reach the alpine hut on a gentler but slightly longer route.
Tip / extension option:
After the Mudlerseebl, another trail branches off towards Brunnerwiesen Alm hut and further up to Lutterkopf peak (2,145 m).
The return follows either the respective ascent route or a scenic circular hike via the mountain inn Mudlerhof and then along trail no. 20 down to Oberstallerhof farm in Oberrasen.
From the Pustertal Valley road, turn into the Antholz Valley and continue to Oberrasen. There, turn right at the church and drive up to the parking area before the Oberstallerhof farm.
Sturdy hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and sufficient water are recommended. Sure-footedness and a good basic level of fitness are helpful for the steeper trail variants.
