This scenic mountain tour leads from Oberrasen (Oberstall) via the Lutterkopf peak to the Durakopf peak and, after a longer forest ascent, continues mostly along an open ridge.
The hike offers wide-ranging views over the Antholz Valley as well as the surrounding peaks of the Rieserferner group and the Dolomites.
Starting from the parking area before Oberstall, the path first leads through the forest to the Hochrautalm hut and Brunnerwiesenalm hut (both serviced), which are perfect for a break. From there, the route continues uphill to the Lutterkopf peak and follows a panoramic trail to the Durakopf peak.
The tour can be adapted flexibly: those who want to save elevation gain can start at the Restaurant Mudler mountain inn. It is also possible to extend the hike into a circular route via the Taistner Vorderalm hut or descend back to the valley via the Kirmlehof farm.
This tour is especially rewarding on clear days, as the ridge between Lutterkopf peak and Durakopf peak offers spectacular panoramic views in all directions. If you prefer a more relaxed start, begin at the Mudlerhof mountain inn to avoid the steeper forest ascent. For a more varied route, consider combining the hike with a visit to Taistner Vorderalm hut.
The starting point is the parking area before Oberstall (Oberrasen). From here, follow trail no. 5 through shaded forest to the Hochrautalm hut and then to the Brunnerwiesenalm hut (both serviced).
From the Brunnerwiesenalm hut, the landscape opens up and the ascent continues to the Lutterkopf peak. From there, the route follows an exposed ridge to the Durakopf peak along trail no. 31. This section impresses with its wide, open scenery and stunning panoramic views.
Alternative start:
From the Mudlerhof mountain inn, you can reach the Lutterkopf peak and continue to the Durakopf peak directly via trail no. 31, saving some elevation gain.
Circular route option:
From the Durakopf peak, you can descend via trail no. 38 to the Taistner Vorderalm hut (serviced) and return to the parking area near the Mudlerhof.
Alternatively, descend via the Kirmle farm along trail no. 20 back to Oberrasen.
