Did you know that the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, with its 38 three-thousanders, represents the most glacier-rich nature park in South Tyrol? Or did you know that, along with the Austrian Hohe Tauern National Park and the Zillertaler High Alps Nature Park, it forms the largest nature reserve network in Central Europe? Long story short: This nature park is a must-see! Covering a total area of 31,320 hectares, it extends over 6 municipalities and borders on the Ahrntal valley and Pustertal valley as well as the mountain pass Staller Sattel on the Austrian-Italian state border.
At the Rieserferner-Ahrn visitor centre, exhibitions and films tell you more about the origins of this unique mountain world and its flora and fauna. Some special and rare alpine species such as the mountain hare or the rock ptarmigan live right here! And you can also discover the Androsace alpina, an impressive flower that blooms at an altitude of 3,000 m. And to complete the experience, there is a varied children’s programme which offers exciting events, afternoons for the little ones as well as guided family hikes.
